PHILADELPHIA — State Rep. Mike Carroll, D-Avoca, is attending the Democratic National Convention in his roll as chairman of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives Democratic Campaign Committee.

Carroll was in the lobby of the Doubletree Center City Hotel Thursday morning preparing for meetings. He said he will discuss the upcoming November election with state Democrats.

“We want to make sure they all have their campaigns headed in the right direction,” Carroll said. “We want all the campaigns in good shape.”

Carroll said the goal of the Democrats is to try to reduce the Republican advantage in the state House, where the GOP holds a decisive 119 to 84 majority. The Republicans also control the state Senate.

Of those 84 Democrats running in November, 69 are contested races. Carroll said the Democrats must retain their seats and also win some new seats.

“We hope to at least make some inroads,” Carroll said.
