According to WXCC radio sports personality Joe Kinzer’s fantastic research, Mingo Central was the first opponent to shut-out Wayne at home since Bluefield did so in the 2002 state semi-finals. It was the Miners impressive 34-0 win Friday night for the team’s first 5-0 start in school history.

That win was at historic Pioneer Field in Wayne and was the first ever win at Wayne for MCHS. It is also the first ever season (in the 6th year) the Miners beat both Wayne and Tolsia in the same season.

… Cason Kissinger, the kicker for Class AAA Huntington, is the son of former Williamson High School athlete Mark Kissinger. The young Kissinger has good range for field goals and kicks extra points for the Highlanders. Mark played for the Wolfpack back in the 1980s.

…. Former South Charleston and Marshall football star Aaron Dobson recently signed with the Detroit Lions. Dobson was drafted by the Patriots and played there for a couple of seasons, but has battled injuries. He was cut in the pre-season and finally signed with the Lions.

Dobson, if he can stay healthy, could still be a productive wide receiver in the NFL.
