GOODY, Ky — The Belfry girls’ soccer team stayed vigilant on Thursday afternoon with a 5-5 tie against the Paintsville Lady Tigers.
The Lady Pirates move into a record of 0-1-1 after the tie with Paintsville. The Match was close but not without a silver lining, tough competition breeds tough competitors. The Lady Pirates fought hard but could not find the edge they needed to get the win.
The Lady Pirates ended the first half with a 3-2 lead over the Lady Tigers. Kylie Gollihue put the first point on the board for Belfry , with a Samantha Smith assist, in the 2nd minute of play. Tori Nordin fired back for the Lady Tigers in the 17th minute with an unassisted goal to tie the match.
Gillihue scored again in the 20th minute and Nordin scored again in the 28th minute. With the score tied 2-2, Robbi-Ann Brewer came through , with a Kaley Long assist, to edge out the Lady Tigers right before the haf giving Belfry a 3-2 lead.
Brewer also opened up the second half with the first score in the 56th minute. Nordin was not finished making moves for the Lady Tigers and squeeked one past Belfry’s Kylea Stanley on a penalty kick in the 67th minute. Gollihue scored again in the 72nd minute , with an assist from Brewer, to make the score -53 in favor of the Lady Pirates. However, Nordin scored two more goals during the last minutes to tie the game at 5 for both teams.
Prestonsburg attempted 23 shots against Stanley who had 12 saves for the Lady Pirates. Belfry attempted 27 shots against Paintsville’s Hope Auxier who had 16 saves.
The Lady Pirates will move on to face Ashland Blazer at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday in a road game. Then they return home to host Johnson Central on Monday.
