ASHLAND, Ky. — On August 7th the Tug Valley Bass Anglers held its sixth tournament of the 2016 season on the Ohio River at Ashland, Ky. and 24 anglers competed in the event.
The Ohio River was in great shape for the tournament. The water was about 1-to-2 feet below normal elevation with stained water and a slow current.
Weather for the tournament was good with sunny skies, light winds and an air temperature around 90 degrees.
The fishing was a little tough, reports all summer said the fishing was slow and they were right. While there seemed to be a good number of fish caught the keepers were hard to come by.
The main pattern for this tournament was to fish top water in the morning then switch to soft plastic lures and crankbaits fished around any hard cover, wood or rocks in 1 to 6 feet of water on the main river. Lures that imitated bait fish were the top producers.
The top finishers are as follows:
1st Brandon Staten — (5 fish) 6.58 lbs.
2nd MO — (5 fish) 5.06 lbs.
3rd Mike Patrick — (4 fish) 4.23 lbs.
4th John Newman — (2 fish) 3.14 lbs.
5th Lynn Fields — (3 fish) 3.12 lbs.
6th Bryan Fields — (2 fish) 3.08 lbs.
7th Don Taylor — (1 fish) 2.44 lbs.
8th Kevin Runyon — (2 fish) 2.08 lbs.
9th Keith Pacific — (2 fish) 2.07 lbs.
10th Cody Justice — (2 fish) 2.06 lbs.
