Logan, Man advance in 9-10 tourney

The Man and Logan 9-10-year-old Little League All-Stars advanced with wins on Tuesday night in the District 2 Tournament at the Pineville Little League field.

Man won 14-4 over Welch, while Logan was a 15-3 winner over Matewan. Both Welch and Matewan have been knocked out of the double-elimination tourney.

Action was scheduled to continue on Wednesday night at Pineville as Chapmanville was scheduled to play Madison for the district championship and a berth in the upcoming 9-10 state tournament.

Man was also slated to take on Logan in an elimination game Wednesday night. The winner moves on to take on the Chapmanville/Madison loser for the runner-up position and a second berth in the state tournament.

In the Man/Welch game, Man first baseman Jacob Bartram had three hits, including a triple and two singles. Brad Brown of Man tripled, while Bo Thompson, Braxton Bartram and Hunter Gibson each added a single. Cameron Gerace had two singles.

Man scored seven runs in the fourth inning to break the game wide open. The game was stopped after five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.

Logan also was able to score a mercy-rule win over Matewan in five innings.

Logan’s Cole Blankenship had two singles, while Joey Canterbury had a triple and a single.

Pitcher Dylan Vance added a double for Logan. Sheldon Stone rapped out a pair of singles for Logan. Luke Blankenship had a double and a single. Chase Hatfield, Caden Baisden and Devin Stewart also had hits for Logan.

For Matewan, Dylan Vance had two singles and Tyler Coleman, Dylan Mounts, Aaron Blankenship and Aiden Burke each had one hit.

* The upcoming 11-12-year-old District 2 Little League All-Star Tournament is scheduled to begin on July 9 instead of July 5 as previously reported. The tourney is slated to be played at Paul Hale Field in Logan.
