Hager named Prestonsburg baseball head coach

PRESTONSBURG, Ky. – Shawn Hager has been named the new head coach of the Prestonsburg High School baseball program. He replaces Shane Simpkins.

Hager guided the Sheldon Clark baseball team to a 15th Region All “A” Classic title earlier in the year. The Hager-coached Cardinals finished the 2015 season 12-16.

Prior to spending the 2015 season as Sheldon Clark’s baseball coach, Hager guided the Cardinals football squad during a long coaching tenure. Hager’s coaching stint at Sheldon Clark spanned 20 years. Prior to replacing Jim Matney as the Sheldon Clark football team’s head coach, Hager was an an assistant coach for the Cardinals.

In addition to being the Prestonsburg baseball team’s head coach, Hager will serve as an assistant coach on the Blackcat boys’ basketball and football coaching staffs.

Hager, who will teach social studies at Prestonsburg, inherits a Blackcat baseball team currently on top in the all-Floyd County district.

Prestonsburg is the five-time defending 58th District champion. The Blackcats concluded the 2015 season 15
