Conference USA releases 2016 football TV slate

Five evening kickoffs highlight home slate

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall football will have evening kickoffs for five of its 2016 home games, the department learned Wednesday upon release of Conference USA’s 2016 television schedule.

CBS Sports Network will have Marshall in successive weeks, a 12 p.m. game against Akron (Sept. 17) and the 8 p.m. showdown with Louisville (Sept. 24).

beIn SPORTS, the league’s newest television partner, will have two Thundering Herd home games, a 6 p.m. contest against Morgan State (Sept. 10) and a 5:30 p.m. affair with Charlotte (Oct. 22).

American Sports Network will have six of Marshall’s games, all beginning at 7 p.m. They are: Oct. 8 at North Texas, Oct. 15 versus Florida Atlantic, Oct. 29 at Southern Miss, Nov. 5 at Old Dominion, Nov. 12 versus Middle Tennessee and Nov. 19 at FIU.

Marshall and Western Kentucky will square off on Nov. 26 in game that will be carried on an ESPN network at a time yet to be determined.

The game time and network for Marshall’s Oct. 1 game at Pittsburgh is also not yet known.

“We are extremely fortunate this year to, not only have seven home games, but that at least five of them will be evening starts,” said Marshall Director of Athletics Mike Hamrick. “Additionally, having what should be a nationally-ranked Louisville team play here should also be a treat for our fans. This is our most attractive home schedule in quite some time and I know our faithful will respond.”

The 2016 C-USA Championship game on Saturday, Dec. 3 is scheduled to air on either ESPN or ESPN 2. It marks the 12th straight year that the C-USA Championship will air on the ESPN Networks. ESPN is also scheduled to carry all six of C-USA’s bowl games in which it has a guaranteed selection.

Marshall has amassed a 33-8 record over the past three seasons, a mark that stands atop the Group of Five.
