HUNTINGTON — Senior Citizen Kelly Miller proves that the old saying , ” Snow on the roof does’nt mean there’s not fire in the furnace ,” is not lie.
67 years young Kelly Miller has been competing in the West Virginia Senior Games for some years now. Miller has racked up an impressive amount of medals in the track and field category of the games over his time competing. Miller recently competed in this years Senior Games on June 20th and the result was no surprise.
Miller finished first place in five different events. He the won gold medal in the 50 , 100 , and 200 meter sprints and also took home gold in both the long jump and triple jump in the 65-69 age range.
The event was held at Huntington High School at the athletic complex. Seniors from across the state compete in the competition. Miller resides in Belo W.Va. There was around 150 participants this year at the Senior Games.
Miller said ” I do this to stay in shape, it keeps the fire burning .”
The Senior games provide a great opportunity for socialization and friendly competition. After several years of being held in Charleston , the senior games moved back to Huntington in 2013.
There are six sports offered in the senior games , Basketball , Golf , Pickleball , 5k road race , track and field and volleyball. Information on registering for next years games call 304-526-1823.
