SALYERSVILLE, Ky. – The Belfry Lady Pirates were blanked by the Magoffin County Lady Hornets on Thursday evening by a final score of 4-0.
Magoffin County sits in the number one spot of the 15th Region in girls fast pitch softball. They lived up to that designation on the Thursday evening at the Tim Bostic Memorial Sporting Complex. The Lady Hornets scored three runs in the first inning and added one more run in the sixth inning.
Belfry got off three hits during the game, all singles. Kyra Stafford, Alex Smith, and Paula Dotson got the hits. Hannah Skaggs kept the mound warm for the Lady Hornets and finished the game with 15 strikeouts and only one walk. Kendra Gannon pitched for the Lady Pirates and got five strikeouts and three walks.
Skaggs done most of the damage on offense during the first inning with a two-run RBI to right field to bring in Laylee Burchell and Jasmine Howard. Skaggs also scored the last run in the sixth inning when Kristin Gamble knocked her in.
The Lady Pirates have picked up a nasty habit recently, and that is losing. Belfry has lost five out of their last six games.
The Lady Pirates were scheduled to play in the third annual Wizard of Oz Tournament hosted by Letcher Central on Friday and Saturday. Belfry will return to action on Monday with a trip across the mountain to the Hornets’ nest to face Phelps at 6:00 p.m.
