NAUGATUCK – The Progress of Tug Valley High School’s new football field is right on schedule. Renovations on the existing field began earlier in the year, and with the support of community members and local businesses the Tug Valley Athletic association is working for a brand new look.

The new field design has moved field placement 15 feet away from the bleachers and 15 feet forward, to accommodate a running track. Also the field has been crowned 21 inches in the center to promote proper drainage. The new field will feature all new sod which is scheduled to be delivered in sections beginning Friday the 19th of June.

Plans do not stop at the field, they also hope to include outdoor tennis and basketball courts, as well as a new pavilion and parking lot. Tug Valley High School’s Principal Mr. John Branch offered gratitude to Everette Hannah for his assistance with the site work.

Other plans include an expansion of the facilities press box and construction of a brand new 36 x 100 athletic complex, which will begin framing placement this weekend. they hope to have the project completed by the beginning of football season.

Principal Branch said, “We have had an amazing out-pouring of help from the community.”

Financial donations through a GoFundMe account have helped push this project along. Talk of renovations by the Tug Valley Athletic Association began back in 2011, however after receiving an initial estimate of $12 million dollars the group decided to pursue plans that would come to fruition sooner.

“People began to become excited once the tree’s were cleared and progress was shown. People are really rallying around the whole project. We couldn’t be happier by the level of support, it’s been tremendous, ” added Branch.

The Tug Valley Athletic association hope to be finished and operable by their first game against Sherman on August 28th.
