GLENN HAYES – The ACA Eagles fought hard but ultimately lost to the Tolsia Rebels on Tuesday night by a score of 71-60.
The Eagles kept the game close against Tolsia through most of the game. Tolsia led the first quarter with a score of 16-13 and pulled away even further during the second quarter as they outscored the Eagles 20-14.
The Rebels led the Eagles by nine points heading into halftime with a score of 36-27. The Eagles were not going down quietly after halftime as they outscored the Rebels 18-17 at the end of the third quarter. The final quarter was where the Rebels sealed the win by outscoring the Eagles 17-15.
The Eagles fell into some foul trouble early in the game and had three starters on the bench before halftime with 3 fouls each. At one point the Eagles had the Rebels lead cut to five in the third quarter until foul trouble forced the Eagles to pull back once more.
The Eagles inched closer to evening out the score with seven minutes left to play in the game, with four minutes left to play Tolsia’s Jordan Johnson took off on a scoring spree and finished the night with 24 points.
ACA Head Coach Rick Preece said, “We just could not answer him (Johnson), he just pushed us around and he wanted it more.”
The Eagles only made 17 free throws out of 34 attempts.
“We had our opportunities, but you cannot shoot 50 percent from the line and expect to win any games,” added Preece.
The eleven point victory for the Rebels put them at a record of 1-0 to start off the season. ACA falls to a record of 2-4.
Rhakim Gray finished the night leading the Eagles in scoring with 21 points, Skylar Dingess finished the night with 14 points and Chris Muncy had 13 points.
Johnson led the Rebels in scoring after netting 24 points, Colten Jude finished the night with 13 points.
