RED JACKET – The 2nd annual East-West Senior All-Star football game is scheduled for Saturday, August 1 at Harless Stadium.
The kickoff is set for 8:00 p.m. at the mountaintop campus of Mingo Central High School (MCHS) and will start off the football season in the region.
Attorney Jeff Simpkins, of Simpkins Law Office, is going to be the sponsor.
Practices will start Monday, July 27. Joey Fields, offensive coordinator for MCHS, will the coach West squad, while Larry Cook of Westside will coach the East all-stars. Cook is a former West Virginia University offensive lineman and also coached at the old Gilbert High School.
The West team’s colors will be green and white representing Marshall University colors and the East squad will be gold and blue, the colors of WVU.
The West team will consist of former players from Mingo Central, Wayne, Logan, Chapmanville, Tug Valley, Man, Scott, Sissonville, South Charleston, Capital and George Washington.
The East team will consist of graduates from Westside, Bluefield, Princeton, Wyoming East, Beckley Woodrow Wilson, Mt. View, Shady Springs and Riverview.
Players from other schools in the respective regions of both all-star squads may be added as the summer progresses and the rosters are put together by Fields and Cook.
The West squad won the inaugural game that was played in 2014.
The game took the place of the old Hatfield-McCoy Senior Bowl that featured players from southern W.Va. and eastern Ky. and was played at Matewan. That game took the place of the old Kiwanis Senior Bowl that started back in 1957 and was played at Lefty Hamilton Park in Williamson.
MCHS head coach Yogi Kinder is the game director. More information will be released at a later date.
