FORT GAY – The Tug Valley Panthers lost their first game of the season. The Tolsia Rebels outscored the Panthers 31-14.
The most anticipated game of the week turned out to be bad news for the Panthers, both teams entered the contest undefeated. The Tug Valley Panthers were ranked number five in the state in Class A and The Tolsia Rebels were ranked number five in the state in Class 2A. The road to perfection has ended for the Panthers at the hands of the Rebels.
Tolsia quarterback, Seth McMillion, put the first points on the board from a 24-yard run to pay dirt with 4:45 left to go in the first quarter. Luke Presley added the two-point conversion run to put the Rebels up 8-0.
The Panthers returned fire when Tyler Conley connected with Calvin Blankenship for a 67-yard touchdown pass with 8:37 left to go in the first half. The Panthers failed to convert the extra point making the score 8-6 in favor of the Rebels.
Tug Valley scored first after halftime with 6:25 left to go in the third quarter when Conley connected with Blankenship again for a 15-yard touchdown reception. Conley completed the two-point conversion pass to Corbin Oliver to make the score 14-8 and give the Panthers the lead.
Tolsia fired back when McMillion scored another run from 16-yards out with 1:38 left to go in the third quarter. L. Presley rushed in the two-point conversion to put the Rebels back on top and make the score 14-16.
The Rebels controlled the fourth quarter; L. Presley scored on a 29-yard run with 10:17 left to go in the fourth quarter and Jennings Holland added the extra-point kick for the Rebels to make the score 14-23 in favor of Tolsia.
McMillion sealed the win for the Rebels when he punched in the final touchdown from 1-yard out with 7:06 left to go in the game. McMillion also added the two-point conversion run to make the final score 14-31.
Tug Valley finished the game with 99-yards on the ground from 23 total carries and 161-yards through the air from 11 completions. They finished the game with 260-yards of total offense but lost 100-yards total in penalties.
The Tolsia Rebels finished the game with 375-yards of total offense; they had 310-yards rushing and 65-yards passing.
Phillip Lucas had the most rushing yards for the Panthers with 41-yards on 11 carries. Oliver followed with 20-yards on three carries. Blankenship snatched up 82-yards on six receptions and one touchdown. Oliver was close behind with 80-yards on three receptions and one touchdown. Conley completed 11 of his 25 passes for 161-yards and two passing touchdowns.
Conley also led the Panthers on defense with 12 tackles, Jeremy Dillon and Oliver had nine tackles a piece. Lucas added one sack for the Panthers.
It was a disappointing loss for the Panthers and they now fall to a record of 4-1 on the season. Tolsia improves to 5-0.
