PIKEVILLE – The Belfry boys’ soccer team traveled to Pikeville on Tuesday night to take on the Panthers. The Pirates won the match by a score of 1-0.
After a scoreless first half the Pirates came out right after halftime and scored the only goal of the match. Matt Lambert scored from a Noah McNamee assist during the 47th minute of the match.
Lambert broke the 50th goal barrier with that score; he is the only Pirate in school history to have that accolade under his belt. Lambert has scored at least one goal in all of the match’s he has played in this season.
The Pirates attempted 27 shots at the goal. Pikeville’s goalie, Evan Hall, had 17 saves in the match. The Panthers attempted 14 shots at the goal. Belfry’s goalie, Dominic Gentile, had 7 saves in the match.
This was the third straight shutout for goalie Dominic Gentile this season. The Pirates have outscored their opponents 20-6 in the first seven games of the season.
Belfry now stands with a record of 5-2; they will host the Paintsville Tigers tonight at 8:00 p.m.
