Primary voting is around the corner and political candidates are dominating the news cycle. We hear speech after speech, multiple debates, and tons of pledges. Wouldn’t it be nice if politicians kept their promises? Then we would have free college and quality healthcare for everyone, a balanced budget, higher paying jobs, all of our veterans would be cared for, and America would be great again. After a short time in office reality sets in and we the people learn the truth. It is then we realize that they lied to us or just had good motives and couldn’t deliver everything. Our country has had many leaders over time that has let us down. Thankfully God is not a politician and will never fail you. His word contains hundreds of promises and he keeps every single one of them.

Some of these promises are contained in Isaiah 53:5: “But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.” Jesus predicted that he would die on the cross and then be resurrected on the third day. This was the most challenging promise ever made throughout time. Keeping this word, Christ would have to be brutally murdered and endure the crucifixion. You cannot spin your way out of this statement or change the subject. This would take a divine love and commitment to the world that no imposter could imitate. Jesus proved his love and established tremendous credibility that cannot be refuted. If Christ kept this promise then should we doubt any other?

The cross is overwhelming proof today that we can trust God and believe all his word. We can be assured when he said he would never leave nor forsake us. Also, that he would be our refuge and strength in the time of trouble. He purchased our emotional and physical healing at Calvary. Most importantly, he promised salvation and forgiveness for a repentant heart. That if we confess our sins and put our faith in Jesus we can receive eternal life. Participate in the political process but do not put your trust in politicians. Only God can fix our country and all our problems. It is time that you seek after God and embrace all his promises in the Bible. We can obtain every one of them by faith and stand on the solid rock. Allow them to change your life and bring you hope in troubled times.
