NAUGATUCK – At a regular meeting of the Mingo County Board of Education (BOE), board members voted to approve a number of personnel decisions.
Three people were approved for new employment into existing positions effective Feb. 17. Patricia Brown, Melinda Edwards, and Paul V. Price III, were approved as substitute teachers for Mingo County Schools.
The BOE voted to suspend Cathy Marcum as LPN Coordinator for the Mingo County Extended Learning Center. The suspension will continue with pay until June 30, pending investigation.
A number of professional extracurricular assignments were approved for the 2015-16 school year. Lisa Ashurst was approved as After School Literacy Tutor, for Williamson PK-8. Chad Baisden was approved as Girls Basketball Coach at Kermit PK-8. William Shayde Chapman was approved as Title I Parent Assistant at Williamson PK-8. Susan Clevenger was approved as After School Literacy Tutor (50 percent), at Lenore PK-8. Christina Golden was approved as Wellness Coach at Lenore PK-8. Laura May and Kara Plummer were approved as After School Literacy Tutor (50 percent) at Gilbert Elementary School. Tammy Runyon was approved as After School Literacy Tutor (50 percent) at Lenore PK-8. Jack Stewart was approved as Track Coach during a leave of absence at Mingo Central High School (MCHS) Brandon Byrne was approved to coach at Tug Valley High School (TVHS).
Britt Moore’s request for a leave of absence as Track Coach at MCHS for the remainder of the 2015-16 school was approved.
Resignations were approved for Kenneth Brandon Bowens and Janice Bowens as Assistant Softball Coach at TVHS effective Feb.8.
Regarding service personnel, Kathy Williams was approved for employment as Aide/Autism Mentor, at Burch Elementary School. Denise Hopkins was approved to transfer to Aide/ECCAT at Kermit PK-8 effective July 1. Jacqueline Hatfield’s request for a leave of absence as Secretary III at MCHS was approved. The reclassification of Lori Brewer and Angela Sheppard as Aide IV/ECAT II were approved. The resignation of Janie Canterbury was also approved.
The BOE also approved several personnel realignments for 2016-17. Under this listing, the BOE voted to abolish all positions assigned to Burch Elementary School, in whole or in part, effective July 1 2016.
Also regarding personnel realignment for 2016-17, the BOE voted to abolish several positions. At Burch Middle, the following positions are being abolished: Three Special Education positons, a teacher Grade 6 position, a Principal position and Title I interventionist. At Dingess Elementary School, a Kindergarten position will be abolished. At Gilbert Middle/Elementary, a Librarian position, and Technology System Specialist will be abolished. At Kermit, A Teacher/Multi-subject position will be abolished. At Lenore PK-8 an Assistant Principal, Kindergarten, and Grade 2-3 position will be abolished. At Williamson PK-8, an Art and Technology Systems Specialist Position will be abolished. At MCHS the following positions will be abolished: Counselor, Teacher Business, Teacher English, Teacher Science and Teacher Social Studies. At TVHS the following positions are being abolished: Assistant Principal, Counselor/Attendance, and Librarian.
The BOE approved several transfers effective July 1 2016. The following were approved for transfer: Deidra Adkins, Joel Anderson, Randi Bowen, Brian Charles, Daniel Mark Dean II, Allison Dotson, Candace Fletcher, Jeanette Oldaker, Alicia Smith, Tara Smith, Ernestina Trent, Angela Varney, Brenda Vickers, and Irena Jo Trent.
Four were approved for reassignment effective July 1, 2016. These include: Amanda Dickey, Margaret Fitch, Jessica May, and Jennifer Miller.
The BOE approved the creation of five new positions effective July 1, 2016. These include: Teacher Option Pathway for Mingo County Schools, Counselor at TVHS/Dingess, Librarian Burch/Gilbert/Dingess, and Teacher/Health and PE at Williamson PK-8.
The BOE voted to abolish all service personnel positions assigned to Burch Elementary effective July 1, 2016. Also approved to be abolished July 1, are: Aide/Early Childhood at Dingess, Custodian III at Dingess, Custodian III at Gilbert Elementary/Middle, Cook II at Lenore PK-8, Aide/Early Childhood Classroom Assistant Teacher at Matewan PK-8, Custodian III at Matewan PK-8, Aide/Autism Mentor at Williamson PK-8, Custodian III at Williamson PK-8, Aide/Braille Specialist and Cook II at TVHS.
Several service personnel were also approved for transfer to unassigned. Those approved for transfer include: Betti Glenita Booten, Brenda Christian, Kimberly Dixon, Mitzi May, Tim Moseley, Donna Paterino, Evelyn Smith and Andrea Steele.
Three were approved to terminate continuing contract and be placed on preferred recall effective July 1, 2016. These include: Marvin Jones, Katherine Marcum, and Diana Picklesimer.
Several were approved to decline to renew probationary contract due to reduction in force and be placed on preferred recall effective July, 1 2016. These include: Ashley Browning, Crystal Canterbury, Breana Lawson, April Lockard, James Napier, John Turner and Kathy Williams.
