GOODY, Ky. – An excited crowd gathered at the Southside Mall Thursday morning for the grand opening of retail clothing store, rue21.
Rue21 is a fast growing specialty retailer that offers an assortment of fashion conscious apparel for girls and guys at value prices.
Calli Artrip, rue21’s District Manager, was present for the opening and celebrated with the crowd by taking a group selfie. Despite technical difficulties and without cash registers completely up and running, Alrip opened rue21’s doors to the public. “I’m pumped,” Altrip exclaimed.
Sheryle Sullivan, Manager at Southside Mall, was pleased with the large turnout. “People were already lined up when I got here at 8:30,” Sullivan said.
The rue21 location at the Southside Mall is one of a handful of stores offering a plus sized department. The plus sized line, rue+ is a recent addition for rue21.
“We are so excited to be here. It is going to be amazing,” Altrip said.
Free book bags were given away to the first 100 customers at the grand opening, with 21 containing gift certificates. However, the Southside Mall has customer incentives to offer throughout the weekend. Rue21 will be having up to 50 percent off throughout the weekend. From Friday to Sunday, free back to school packs filled with coupons and school supplies will be available at center court. Customers may also register for free back packs all weekend.
For Sullivan, this project has taken years to complete. “This has been a project in works since 2009,” Sullivan said.
Sullivan is excited to be able to offer this store at the Southside Mall. She explained the difficulties in obtaining chain stores at the Southside Mall location. “A lot of chain stores will not consider the Southside Mall because of our population. This will definitely increase business. People go other places for chain stores. Now, they can shop here,” Sullivan said.
The Southside Mall is open seven days a week. For store information and hours of operation, contact the Southside Mall at 606-237-1200.
