MATEWAN, W.Va. – Matewan held their 14th annual Veteran’s Day Parade on Friday, November, 11.
An estimated 150 to 200 people came out on the beautiful Friday afternoon to enjoy the event.
A parade started at the Matewan Depot and proceeded through town stopping in front of town hall.
The Matewan Fire Department, Lenore Volunteer Fire Department and Kermit Volunteer Fire Department participated in the parade as well as representatives from Matewan, Delbarton and Williamson police departments.
People young and old alike tentatively watched as members of the Phelps (Ky) High School ROTC performed a flag ceremony and Robert Easton played TAPS.
Donna Paterino, Angel Lester and Matewan City Councilwoman Francine Jones issued moving tributes to the Nations Veterans.
Francine Jones said, “I want to thank Donna (Paterino) for all her hard work, if it wasn’t’ for her we would not have been able to put on this program.”
“It was wonderfully to see all of the surrounding communities come together for such a wonderful cause.” Said, Donna Paterino.
A luncheon, compliments of Food City, David Justice, Donald Sansom and Donna Paterino was provided for all attendees.
