ELKHORN CITY, Ky. – The police chief, who is the only member of the Elkhorn City Police Department, was arrested early Monday morning on charges of driving under the influence (1st offense), no driver’s license or registration receipt in her possession.
A statement from Trooper Steven Mounts, spokesman with the Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 9 in Pikeville, Ky., states a call was received around 9 p.m. Sunday night of a single vehicle accident at Elkhorn Creek in Pike County.
When KSP Trooper J.Rose arrived on scene, the occupant of the vehicle, who was later identified as Crystal Davis, 32, of Jenkins, had been transported from the scene to Pikeville Medical Center (PMC) by Trans Star Ambulance Service.
During the course of the investigation, Trooper Rose became aware Ms. Davis was inebriated at the time of the accident.
Upon her release from PMC, Davis was booked in the Pike County Detention Center.
Chief Davis pleaded not guilty to a DUI charge in Pike District Court Monday morning. She was ordered to be held in the Pike County Detention Center on a $1,000, or 10 percent bond. As of press time Davis, has been released. She is scheduled for a pretrial hearing in November.
Elkhorn City Mayor Mike Taylor, said that Davis has been suspended from her duties without pay pending the resolution of the situation.
