County Commission launches clean-up

Starting this weekend the Mingo County Commission (MCC) will begin its Summer 2015 Clean-up project.

The first location will be in Williamson this Saturday and Sunday, June 27-28, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The dumpster will be located in the Fairview Addition area of the county seat.

Persons will be able to dispose of trash and other garbage free of charge. The MCC is paying for the dumpster.

However, there will be certain items not allowed which include appliances, toxic items such as paint, batteries, etc), computers and tires.

Tires can be placed outside the dumpsters, but not inside them. Those will be picked up by the county commission employees for recycling purposes later date.

The next clean-up effort will be in the town of Matewan. Those dates will be Saturday and Sunday, July 11-12, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The dumpster will be located at 3063 McCoy Alley, which is next to police station.

The same rules for items not allowed will be followed at Matewan.

The town of Gilbert has opted out of the clean-up because they stated they could afford security for two days.

At this time these are the only confirmed locations. The MCC stated that more locations could be added at a later date.
