WILLIAMSON – The Mingo County Board of Education approved a number of personnel decisions at a regular meeting Tuesday, Jan. 19.
Several were approved for new employment into existing positions. Michael Baisden, Debbie Coleman, Taylor Elkins, Joseph Hinkle, and Sheri Sloan were approved for substitute teaching effective Jan. 19. Kelli Browning was approved to teach Science at Tug Valley High school and Diana Compton was approved to teach English at Tug Valley High School. Melinda Edwards and Michele Wiley were approved for substitute school nurse positions pending receipt of permit.
Five were approved to transfer into existing positions. Joann Clusky was approved to transfer to Grade 5 at Matewan PK-8. Mariana Elkins was approved to transfer to an Instructional Coach positon at Lenore PK-8. Stephanie Endicott was approved as a Title I teacher at Gilbert Elementary School effective July 1 2016. Ernestina Trent was approved to transfer to an Assistant Principal position at Gilbert Elementary and Gilbert Middle.
Four were approved for retirement effective June 30, 2016. Riley Browning, Billie Croaff, Jacqueline Hill, and Judy Smith were approved for retirement.
Several resignations from professional extracurricular assignments were approved. Pamela Chapman was approved for resignation from Wellness Coach at Lenore PK-8. Justin Crawford was approved to resign as Track Coach from Tug Valley High School. Daniel Mark Dean II was approved to resign as Athletic Director and Computer System Operator at Gilbert Middle School. Reuben Ford was approved to resign as Assistant Football Coach at Mingo Central High School. Robin Griffey was approved to resign as Title I Parent Assistant at Williamson PK-8. Hester Keatley was approved to resign from Volleyball Coach at Matewan PK-8.
Five transfers into positions created from the Burch PK-8 merger were approved. Kathy Belcher was approved to transfer into an Autism Mentor position. Violet Napier was approved to transfer into an Aide III/ECCAT II position. Kathy Rutledge and Angela Sheppard were approved to transfer to an Aide IV/ECCAT II position. Cheryl Wolford was approved to transfer to an Aide II / ECCAT I position.
The resignations of Ruth Kirk and Charlotte Stewart were approved. Kirk resignation as Aide IV at Kermit PK-8 was effective Jan. 3. Stewart’s resignation as Accountant III at Mingo County Schools was also effective Jan. 3.
Three requests for leaves of absence were approved. Brenda Christian was approved for a leave of absence from Oct. 22 2015 to June 30, 2016 from a Custodian III position at Burch Elementary. Bonnie Moore was approved for an extension for a leave of absence as Secretary II at Mingo Central High School until April 5, 2016. Debra Sheppard was approved for a leave of absence as Exec. Secretary/ Clerk II/ Receptionist position at Mingo County School effective Dec. 9 until Jan. 18, 2016.
Three positions were approved to be abolished. Effective Jan. 4, an Accountant III positon was abolished from Mingo County Schools. Also effective Jan. 4, a position as Cook II at Kermit PK-8 was abolished. Effective Jan. 19, an Executive Secretary/Receptionist/Clerk II position at Mingo County Schools was abolished.
