WILLIAMSON – The Mingo County Diabetes Coalition has two upcoming events planned for Wednesday, Dec. 9 and Thursday Dec. 10.

On Wednesday Dec. 9, a bonfire celebration is planned at the Ramella Park Community Garden in East Williamson at 6 p.m. The bonfire is BYOB and s’mores will be roasted on the fire.

The bonfire is a celebration of this year’s successful agricultural projects and gaining new partnerships. This year, the Diabetes Coalition partnered with Growing Warriors.

According to the Growing Warriors website, “The Growing Warriors Project is a program to train, assist and equip veteran families with the skills, tools and supplies needed to grow high quality naturally grown produce for their families, their communities and their country.”

At the bonfire, a new opportunity called Refresh Appalachia will be discussed. According to the website, “Refresh Appalachia is a social enterprise of the Coalfield Development Corporation. The initiative is a regional economic and workforce development initiative to establish a sustainable training and development program to increase the success of beginning farmers and ranchers in southern West Virginia and Central Appalachia.”

More information regarding Refresh Appalachia can be found at www.refreshappalachia.com.

On Thursday, Dec. 10, an awards celebration is being held for the Healthy Feud at the HUB on 54 West Third Avenue in downtown Williamson at 6:30 p.m.

Alexis Batausa, Health and Wellness Promoter for the Diabetes Coalition, said “The event is a recap of the Healthy Feud. We will recognize and give awards to the top 10 participants and teams. We will also discuss the Wellness Tracker and incentive programs.”

Those who completed the 100 miles in 100 Days challenge will be recognized and will receive a T shirt. The family that came on top: the Hatfields or the McCoys will also be announced.

Food will be catered by the Righteous Brew Coffeehouse and Grill for the event. Those that wish to attend are asked to RSVP by Tuesday, Dec. 8. To RSVP visit: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/healthy-feud-celebration-tickets-19784770782.
