WILLIAMSON – The Tug Valley Road Runners (TTVRR) Club held two races during the Thanksgiving holiday and have upcoming races planned throughout the holiday season.
On November 21, TTVRR held the fourth annual Gobble Wobble in Matewan, W.Va. The race was an untimed “fun run.” All participants received a trophy and a T-shirt. Participants were encouraged to dress up in Thanksgiving theme.
TVRR President, Alexis Batausa reported that approximately 50 people showed up for the race. “It went pretty well,” Batausa said. A Thanksgiving potluck dinner followed the race.
Another race was held on Thanksgiving Day. The race was called “Earn it Before You Eat It.” This is the second year the race was held.
“We hope to continue this tradition,” Batausa said.
The race has grown in participation from the previous year. In 2014, about 15 people turned out for the race. Batausa said about 24 people participated this year. “It is good to see new faces,” Batausa said.
On Saturday, Dec. 5, TTVRR is planning a benefit race in honor of the late Dr. Jaime Batausa. Proceeds will go to help pay for funeral costs.
There will be no online registration for this race. TTVRR is asking that people donate a minimum of $20 on race day.
The race will take place at 11 a.m. in downtown Williamson at the Coal House and is open to anyone.
A children’s Reindeer Run will also take place on Dec. 5 at 3 p.m. in downtown Williamson. The race is open to children aged three to ten and will take place on the steps of the Mingo County Court House. Participants will receive a surprise.
On Dec. 31, a New Year’s Eve race will be held. Participants will register at the Williamson Fieldhouse. Last year, approximately 40 people participated in this event.
More details will be made available on the New Year’s Eve race as the race date approaches.
