WILLIAMSON – The annual Great White Way Christmas event has been scheduled for Dec. 5 in downtown Williamson.
The Great White Way is an all-day event that begins at 8:00 a.m. with a pancake breakfast at the United Methodist Church. The pancake breakfast is hosted by the United Methodist Men’s Club.
At 9:00 a.m. there is a Pancake Breakfast with Santa at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with a craft fair from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
From 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. there will be Christmas music. Music will be played outside before the Christmas Parade and later inside the Cinderella Theater. Christmas caroling will take place on the Mingo County Courthouse Steps from noon until 4:30 p.m. A children’s Reindeer Run for ages 3-to-10 will take place at 3:00 p.m. at the courthouse.
This year, vendors are welcome at the event. Vendor Registration forms are available. Booth fees are $25 and need to be set up by 9:30 a.m. All vendors will be located within one block on Logan Street from Third Avenue to Second Avenue from Logan Street to the Coal House.
In downtown Williamson, a contest will be held for the best Christmas window light display. There will also be a city Christmas tree near the fountain on First Avenue. The Wildwood Garden Club will be decorating the Christmas tree.
There will be a children’s gingerbread house workshop from the hours of 10 a.m. until noon for children ages five to 13. A spelling bee for children and adults will take place from the hours of 12:30 until 1:30 p.m.
A quilt display and contest will take place at the Cinderella Theater from the hours of 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. From 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., a train set display will be available for viewing at the Cinderella Theater. A handmade Christmas ornament display will also be held at the Cinderella Theater during that time. An Unusual Doll contest will be take place at the theater from 1 pm. until 2 p.m.
There will also be an “ugly sweater” contest at the Cinderella Theater at 4 p.m. Entries for the Bake Off may be dropped off at the theater from the hours of 1:00 and 2:00 p.m.
From the hours of 1:30 until 2:00, storytelling will take place at the United Methodist Church. An ornament decorating workshop for children will take place at the church from the hours of 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.
Horse and Carriage rides will be available from the hours of 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. The cost is $2 for children and $5 for adults.
The Christmas Parade will start at 5:00 p.m. After the parade, Santa, Mrs. Clause, and elves will distribute Christmas treats provided by the Williamson Memorial Hospital at the Cinderella Theater. There will also be hot chocolate, wassail, chili and samples from the bake off available at the theater following the parade.
