The Kermit United Methodist Church participated in a statewide initiative sponsored by the West Virginia Council of Churches called “Day of Hope” on Sunday, September 13. The purpose was to encourage a substance-free lifestyle and give hope to those struggling with addiction and their families, as well as encouraging the faith community to take a more active role in recovery-related ministries to combat the Tug Valley’s addiction epidemic . Among the highlights of the service were guest speakers Jamie Jo Goodson and Brett Collins, both in recovery, and a concluding candlelight “Prayer of Hope” (pictured) to memorialize those lost to addiction and their families, to honor those in recovery, and for the healing of those in active addiction.
