Rachel M. Jones Smith, 85, of Lexington, Ky., formerly of Williamson, passed away on June 21, 2012, at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, from complications following a stroke.

Born August 6, 1926, at Verdunville, she was the daughter of the late Burton Jones and Verda Ratliff Jones.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Joseph I. Smith; a sister, Pauline Reed; a half-brother, Eldon Ray Jones; and her stepmother, Elsie Ackerman Jones.

Rachel moved from Williamson, to Lexington, three years ago. She attended the First Baptist Church in Williamson and Crossroads Christian Church in Lexington. She retired from Food City Supermarket after having worked over thirty years. She served in the capacity of co-manger at the time of her retirement.

Rachel is survived by one daughter, Donna Wainscott of Lexington; two grandchildren, James Wainscott of Sarasota, Fla., and Shannon (David) Dunn of Lexington; a brother, Walter (Johnny) and his wife, Charlene Jones of Lexington; two sisters, Joyce Ruble of Lexington, and Dora Charles of Ashboro, N.C.; half-sister, Marylene and her husband, Norman Le Furgy of Richmond, Ky.; half-brother, Dale Jones and his wife, Jackie of Bowling Green, Ohio; and the loves of her life, two great-grandsons, Griffin and Grant Dunn of Lexington. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. with funeral services starting at 1 p.m. on Monday, June 25, at Weaver Mortuary in West Williamson. The Rev. Chuck Ferguson will officiate. Interment is in the Mountain View Memory Gardens at Maher. Family members will serve as pallbearers. The men of the First Baptist Church of Williamson will serve as honorary pallbearers.
