HUNTINGTON – The Tug Valley Panthers picked up where they left off last year as they defeated Huntington St. Joe 85-55 in their first game of the season.

The Panthers, now in Class A, are coming off a Class 2A state championship and are hoping to win back to back titles.

Austin Brewer led the way for the Panthers as he fired in 24 points and pulled down eight rebounds.

Thomas Baisden was next in line with 16 points, while Mikey Newsome added 15 points.

Corey Dillon scored eight, while Aaron Muncy and Hayden Sturgell chipped in six points apiece.

Brewer, Muncy and Newsome each handed out three assists.

Several players saw action and got into the scoring column for Tug Valley.

Tug Valley was 11-13 at the free throw line for 85 percent. The Panthers of coach Garland “Rabbit” Thompson were 36-79 from the field for 46 percent. Tug Valley was only 2-15 from behind the arc for 13 percent.

Anthony Rabel led St. Joe with 25 points. The Irish hit 18-26 at the foul line for 69 percent.

Tug Valley will travel to Cross Lanes Christian on Friday night and will play host to Westside on Saturday for their first home game of the season.
