Joel Cortney Varney, 35, of Ashland City, Tenn., formerly of Varney, passed away July 3, 2010 at his home.

He was born July 8, 1974 at Williamson, the son of the late Alvis Varney Sr. and is survived by his mother, Lottie Hearn Varney of Beckley.

Joel was a disabled veteran of the US Army having served in the Iraq War.

In addition to his mother his survivors include; daughter, Reanne Jo Varney of Ashland City, Tenn., brothers, Gerald Varney of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Alvis Varney Jr. of Varney, Aric Varney of Charlotte, N.C., and Joey Varney of New Jersey.

Funeral services will be held at the Pie Church of God Friday July 9, 2010 at 12 p.m. with Rev. Randy Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Varney Cemetery at Varney.

Visitation will be at the Church from 11 a.m. until the start of the funeral at 12 p.m.
