Georgia Chapman
Georgia Johnson Chapman, 99, of Freeburn, Ky., died Thursday, March 4, 2010, at the Good Shepherd Community Nursing Center of Phelps, Ky.
She was born in Wayne County, W.Va., Dec. 16, 1910, to the late Grant and Alafair Ratliff Johnson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney Chapman.
Georgia was a homemaker and of the Pentecostal faith.
She is survived by sons, Sidney Chapman Jr., Grant Lee Chapman and Allen Chapman; daughters, Missouria Smith, Maxine Hernandez, Priscilla Peterson, Ona Lee Flippo and Lana Kayes; 44 grandchildren; and 81 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, at the Barrenshea (Ky.) Church of God with the Revs. Bobby Dale Wolford and Doug Maynard officiating. Burial will follow in the family cemetery in Barrenshea. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family will begin receiving friends at p.m. Sunday with special serivces nightly at 7 p.m. at the church.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Phelps Funeral Services of Pheps.
Niles Cumbo
Niles Lawerence Cumbo 73, of Inez, Ky., went home to be with the Lord at 11 :55 PM Friday March 5, 2010.
Born July 16, 1936 in Martin County, Ky to the late Rose Porter Cumbo Lusher and Oral Cumbo,also preceding him in death one daughter Beverly Ann Cumbo Ferguson. two granddaughters Miranda Shae and Hillary Brooke Ferguson.
Surviving are his wife is Judy Stepp Cumbo, one son Niles Brian Cumbo, half sister Barbara McNeery, special aunt Margie (Sis) Rope, several neices, nephews, cousins and friends.
Niles severed in the US Army 101st Airborne division, worked as a Water Plant Superintendent for 32 years before retiring due to poor health.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, March 8 in the Chapel of Phelps & Son Funeral Home with Rick Osborne officiating, burial will follow in the Cumbo Family Cemetery of Debord.
Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Arrangements under the direction of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home of Inez.
Lonnie Endicott
Lonnie Hubert Endicott Hatfield, 73, of Kershaw, .SC., formerly of Man, died at home on March 4, 2010.
Born January 1, 1937 in Gilbert, WV, he was the son of the late Marie Endicott Brown and the late Arnold Hatfield.
Friends may gather with the family Monday, March 8th, 2010 from 6 to 9 pm at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel.
Services will be conducted on Tuesday, March 9, at I p.m. at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Roger Endicott and Rev. Clyde Endicott officiating.
Burial will follow at the Hatfield Cemetery Heights.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Mounts Funeral Home of Gilber.
Verlin McCoy
Verlin McCoy, 67, of Freeburn, Ky., died Friday, March 5, 2010, at the Appalachian Regional Hospital, South Williamson, Ky.
He was born in Pike County, Ky., March 3, 1943, to the late Fon and Cora Mae Sullivan McCoy Sr.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m., Tuesday, March 9, at the Cornestone Apostolic Church. Burial will follow in the Dotson Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Sunday with special services nightly at the church.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Lucas and Son Funeral Home of Pikeville, Ky.
Richard Edwards
Richard L. Edwards, 85, of Apple Grove, West Virginia, died Friday, February 26, 2010 at Holzer Senior Care in Bidwell, Ohio.
He was born December 2, 1924 at Red Jacket, WV, son of the late Walter Edwards and Mary (Clay) Edwards.
Richard was a World War II Army veteran, a member of the First Baptist Church of Varney in Varney, WV, a member of the UMWA local, and a retired coal miner from US Steel Mining Company.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle J. Edwards; one son, Randall Edwards; nine brothers, Herbert, Walter Jr., Curtis, Charles, Rudolph, Howard, James, Lewis and Vernon Edwards; and six sisters, Myrtle Burke, Katherine Sykes, Emogene Hayton, Vernie Edwards, Beulah Mae Cantrell and Dimple Hartley.
Surviving are two sons, Gary (Sandy) Edwards of Gallipolis Ferry and Brent (Patty) Edwards of Apple Grove; four grandchildren, Eric Edwards, Kristen Wray, Shawn Edwards, and Mary Beth Woods; four great grandchildren; and one very special friend, Harold Stover of Apple Grove.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, March 1, 2010 at the Mt. Carmel Cemetery at Apple Grove with Max Spurlock officiating. Military graveside rites will be given by American Legion Post No. 23 of Point Pleasant and the West Virginia Honor Guard. There will be no visitation.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant.
