James R. “Bob” Meade, 90, of Williamson, a retired Mingo County educator and longtime coach, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010, at Whitman.

Born Feb. 22, 1919, at Old Field Branch, Maher, he was the son of the late Wayne Meade Sr. and Virginia Burgess Meade.

Bob was genuinely interested in young people and he deeply cared about the welfare of his students. He worked hard to instill a love of knowledge and awareness in every student he encountered. As a coach, he used sports to teach his players the deeper lessons of life: hard work, dedication and devotion.

As much as Bob loved and enjoyed teaching and coaching, nothing brought him more joy than his own family. He was a devoted and concerned father. He was a true family man, the welfare of his wife and children was always of the upmost importance to him. Bob was the quintessential grandfather and he was so proud of his grandchildren and their accomplishments.

Bob was also a lover of nature. He was a man who truly worshiped in the wide open places. He loved the earth and was an avid gardener. He really enjoyed the sports of hunting and fishing.
