Troy “Pops” Dotson, 83, of Phelps, Ky., died Thursday December 17, 2009 at St. Joseph Hospital.

He was born June 26, 1926 in Jamboree, Ky., to the late George Wheeler III and the late Louisa McCoy Dotson.

Troy was a coal miner with Kentland-Elkhorn Coal Company; a member of The Lord’s House at Phelps, Ky., where he was a minister and was head deacon for 20 years, and a veteran of the Army, having served in World War II and the Korean War.

In addition to his parents, Troy was preceded in death by five brothers, Lonnie, William “Wid,” Clyde, Harold and Fonso Dotson, and four sisters — Elva Nancy Wolford, Martha Woods, Della Mae Dotson and Belva Dotson.

Troy was survived by his mate Nellie Bostic Dotson; three daughters, Linda (Al) Mendoza of Berwyn, Il., Sharon (Randy) Stiltner of Cave Run, Ky., and Sheri Maurice) Allen-Curry of Lexington, Ky.; three grandchildren, Rebecca Dannielle Hatfield of Chicago, Ill., Reese Curry of Lexington, Ky., and Brandy Stiltner (fiance Randy Smith) of Phelps, Ky; a great grandchild, Keith Stiltner (fiancee Santana Bougus) of Cave Run, Ky.; a special niece — Edna Rhea (Dotson) Horne; a special nephew — Ernie Ison; three brothers — Thurman (Pat) Dotson of Rockford, Ill., Clarence (Ressie) Dontson of Clay City, Ky., and James ‘”Jim” Dotson of Chicago, Ill.; special friends Teddy Coleman, Eugene “Ground Hog” Pruitt and Rev. Mitch Bowling, and a host of relatives, friends, and church family. Visitation will be at The Lords House at Phelps, Ky., on Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009 with special services from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m.

Funeral services will be at The Lord’s House Sunday, Dec. 20, 2009 at 1 p.m., with Rev. Mitch Bowling officiating. Burial will follow in the Billy Dotson Family Cemetery at Broad Tree.
