Sheriff’s Department arrests man on child neglect, possession

The Mingo County Sheriff’s Department arrested a man on Friday while investigating another case.

William Fergus Bryant, of Williamson, was charged with child neglect resulting injury, simple possession and two counts of possession with intent to deliver.

According to the criminal complaint filed in Mingo County Magistrate Court, Senior Deputies K. E. Ball and S.M. Smith went to Bryant’s residence to investigate  a report of stolen copper.

Once inside Bryant’s residence the officers saw in plain view a plastic baggie with a green leafy substance that appeared to Marijuana. The officers also state seeing, one glass container with one green round pill, identified as a 15 milligram Roxicodone, a schedule two narcotic and a half of a pink 7.5 Loratab, a schedule III tablet.

In addition, the officers also state seeing a large knife laying on the arm of the living room recliner and the defendants four-year-old son lying approximately six feet away from all of the above listed substances and objects.

The child had been napping and was awoke by the officers knocks, he had no supervision and officers say he would have been able to obtain any of the above mentioned substances or objects.

Senior deputies arrested Bryant and he was transported to Southwestern Regional Jail.
