An accident in Matewan involving a Mingo County school bus and an automobile sent two people to the hospital Monday.

According to Cpl. Chris Endicott, with the Mingo County Sheriff’s Department, Ambroshia Hammond of Lenore was traveling on the roadway in front of Giovani’s restaurant. She allegededly crossed the center line. striking a school bus driven by Rocky Eugene Church of Delbarton.

Church was able to navigate the school bus into a nearby yard, located on a hillside, to avoid any further injuries, Endicott said.

Hammond required transportation by HealthNet, however police could not confirm where she would be admitted.

Hammond’s passenger, James Arnold Collins, of Delbarton, was transported to Williamson Memorial Hospital by STAT Ambulance Service.

Church had already completed his bus route for the evening and no children were involved in the accident. Church did not require hospital transportation.

No citations for the accident have been issued at this time.

Matewan Police Depart-ment and Fire Department assisted on scene.
