Born May 12, 1923, at Elk Creek, she was the daughter of the late Wilburn and Virginia Ferrell Workman Copley Workman.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 47 years, Raymond W. Starr, a daughter, Deborah Starr Hatfield, stepfather Henry Copley, Brothers Arnold and Wilburn Workman, Jr., and Delano Copley, and grandchildren Nikki Gayle Starr and Nathan Tyler Dotson.
Elzie was a homemaker and a longstanding member of the Church of God at Varney.
She is survived by sons Raymond Starr of Blaine, Ky., John Starr of Delbarton and Ronnie Starr of Varney, daughters Anna Ray Blackburn of Blain, Ky., Frostie Crowley of Williamston, S.C. and Marsha Newhouse of Athens, Tenn., brothers William Allen Workman of Davenport, Fla., Basil Copley of Jackson, Ohio and Robert Russel of Davenport, Fla., a sister, Fannie Low Ward of Inez, Ky., 20 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009, at the Church of God at Varney with the Revs. Gary Starr and Gary “Bo” Starr officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain View Memory Gardens at Maher.
Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009, at Chambers Funeral Services chapel, with a brief memorial service at 7:30 p.m.
