Velma G. Williamson, 73, of West Williamson, died on Wednesday, September 16, 2009, at the Appalachian Regional Healthcare Facility in South Williamson, KY.
Born July 10, 1936, in Williamson, she was the daughter of the late Gideon D. Williamson and Jessie Deskins Williamson.
In addition to her parents, Velma was preceded in death by her brother, Willie Lee Williamson.
Velma was a member of the First Church of God and she attended the Forest Hills Baptist Church. She was a 1954 graduate of Williamson High School and she earned a Bachelor of Education degree at Pikeville College. She earned her master’s degree along with an additional 15 hours at Morehead State University. Velma worked as a classroom teacher for the Mingo County Board of Education until her retirement in June of 2002. She was a member of the Tug Valley Choral Society.
Velma is survived by two beloved children, a son, Warren Jarvis Hariston, Jr. of Dunbar, WV and a daughter, Kimberly Victoria Hariston of St. Albans, WV. She is also survived by three sisters, Marilyn Provenzano of Boxford, MA, Mary Ruth Justice of Kinnear, WY and Lillie Maye Blackburn of Georgetown, KY.
The family will receive friends on Saturday evening, September 19, 2009, from 6 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., at Weaver Mortuary in West Williamson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., on Sunday, September 20, 2009, at the mortuary.
The Reverend Scotty Sumpter will officiate.
Burial will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in West Williamson. Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.
