Roy W. Anderson, 87, of West Williamson, passed away at his residence on Saturday, September 12, 2009.

Born July 29, 1922, in Covington, Va., he was the son of the late Alexander Spears Anderson and Min-erva Snead Anderson.

In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Virginia Anderson and two sisters, Lillian Nichols and Vivian Anderson.

Roy was a veteran of the United States Army. After being discharged from military service, Roy attended and was graduated from the National Business College of Roanoke, Va. While pre-paring for a career in business, Roy met his future bride, the former Virginia Ruth Eades, also a business student at the college. Virginia passed away on May 22, 2008.

Roy and Virginia were married on September 28, 1945. The couple soon moved to Williamson where Roy was employed as an accountant with T. R. Joseph. He later worked for Williamson Supply Comp-any, Banks Miller Supply, where he served as treasurer, and Tidewater Supply Com-pany. Roy spent the last several years of his esteemed business career as the Ad-ministrator of Williamson Memorial Hospital.

During the years that Roy built his career, he and Virginia also raised three beloved sons, Mike, Joel and Pete. Always the concerned father, Roy was involved with his sons in scouting and he was active in the Parent Teacher Association in their school. He also participated with them in the youth programs at their church.

Roy was formerly an ac-tive member of the Wil-liamson Rotary Club. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Williamson where he served as an elder. Roy was an avid amateur radio operator, a hobby he had enjoyed for more than fifty years.

Roy is survived by his sons, Mike (Shelia) Ander-son of South Williamson, Ky., Joel (Jo Agnes) Ander-son of Williamson and Peter Jon Anderson, MD, of Crozet, Va.; daughter-in-law, Kathleen Anderson, Crozet, Va.; five loving grandchildren, Christina (Duke) Jew-ell, Meredith Anderson, Alexander Anderson, Melis-sa Anderson and Marshall Anderson. Roy is also survived by his very dear friend, the Reverend Alvin Angle of Buchannon, W.Va.

The family received friends on Monday evening, September 14, 2009, at Wea-ver Mortuary in West Williamson,

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, Sep-tember 15, 2009, at 11 a.m., at the mortuary. The Reve-rend Vaughan Smith will officiate.

Burial will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in West Williamson. Mike Ander-son, Joel Anderson, Pete Anderson, Alexander Ander-son, Duke Jewell and David “Bo” Gibson will serve as active pallbearers. The elders of the First Presbyterian Church of Williamson, the Reverend Alvin Angle, Sam Steele, Frank Robertson and David Robertson will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Weaver Mortuary of West Williamson is serving the Anderson family.

I was so sorry to learn of Roy's death. His father, Sandy, was my grandfather's brother. My grandfather was Byron Anderson who lived in Buena Vista, VA. My father, Ernest Anderson, died in 1998, but he and Mother had attended Aunt Minnie's funeral and saw Roy and family at that time.

My husband, Doug, and I will be thinking of you as you go through this very difficult time.
