A Baisden man who was beaten by home intruders last month has since lost two residences to fire.

Terry Bowles was the owner of the residence where the intrusion, previously reported by the Daily News, occurred on July 12, and was also the first to be struck with a tire iron.

Since then two properties, left to Bowles in heirship by his grandparents, have been destroyed by fires.

The first residence to burn was the trailer where the home invasion occurred. Fire crews were dispatched to the scene on July 24 at 12:48 a.m. Baisden Fire Department officials said witnesses reported an ATV leaving the scene of the fire.

Approximately nine days later crews were dispatched to the house located directly beside the trailer. Crews were unable to save the structures and both were completely destroyed.

Officials say both cases are suspected to be arson and the have been reported to the West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office.

The four men that were arrested for the home invasion still remain in Southwestern Regional Jail. Willie Wayne McCoy, 31, of Detroit, Mich.; Casey James Behelar II, 28, of Gilbert; Chester Shirley Lester, 20, of Baisden; and Joshua Cantrell, 19, of Wharncliffe, are all facing charges of burglary, first degree robbery, kidnapping, grand larceny, first degree sexual assault, malicious wounding, and conspiracy .

McCoy received a bond of $150,000 for burglary; $300.000 for first degree robbery; $50,000 for grand larceny; $500,000 for first degree sexual assault; $50,000 for malicious wounding; and $50,000 for conspiracy for each individual charge. McCoy is being held without bail for kidnapping.

The other three defendants received bonds of $75,000 for burglary; $200,000 for first degree burglary; $20,000 for grand larceny; $125,000 for sexual assault; $20,000 for malicious assault; and $50,000 for conspiracy for each individual charge. They are also being held without bond for kidnapping.

West Virginia State Police (WVSP) referred to the incident as a home invasion when the men allegedly beat Bowles and Jimmy Keith West with a tire iron and sexually assaulted a unidentified female.

At approximately 11:30 p.m., July 12, the four males allegedly kicked open the door to Bowles’ residence at Right Hand Fork in Baisden, and beat him with a tire iron before taking $2,500 in currency and Oxycontin, according to West Virginia State Police (WVSP).

While inside the residence, McCoy found a semi-automatic pistol and threatened Bowles and the female.

McCoy then handed the gun to Cantrell who made Bowles lay on the ground, while McCoy took the female in another room and sexually assaulted her, said Sgt. Baylous, WVSP public information officer.

West allegedly arrived at the residence during the incident and was struck with the tire iron several times. Police stated that Lester and Behelar assisted as the look-out and driver.

The men were located at a residence at Big Lick Road on Baisden where they where arrested and transported to Southwestern Regional Jail.

James Behelar, II, 28, of Gilbert requested a continuance after being denied a court appointed attorney because of excess of income. Magistrate Crum issued a continuance of Behelar’s preliminary to allow him time to obtain counsel.
