James Clay "J.C." Kirk, 74, of South Williamson, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at the Appalachian Regional Hospital, South Williamson, Kentucky.

Born February 7, 1935 in Martin County, Kentucky, a son of the late Augustus "Gus" and Minnie Meade Kirk.  Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, James Michael Kirk and Rick Clay Kirk; one brother, Clyde Kirk; and three sisters, Odell Teeters, Gladys Parsley and Ioan Sartin.
J.C. was a retired coal miner from Island Creek Coal Company.  He was a proud United Mine Workers of America Official.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 51 years, Carol Bevins Kirk;  He also left two sons, Jim (Sandy) Bevins of South Williamson, Kentucky and Eddie Kirk of Long Branch, Kentucky; two daughters, Sandy (Ran) Marcum of Hatfield, Kentucky and Stephanie (Keith) May of Turkey Creek, Kentucky and daughter-in-law, Vicki Kirk of Lexington, Ky. to forever mourn his loss.

J.C. left one granddaughter, Mindy (Kyle) Thompson of Forest Hills, Kentucky; six grandsons, James Christopher (Crystal) Kirk of Huntington, West Virginia, Ryan Clay (Elaine) Marcum of Hatfield, Kentucky, Derrick (Stephanie) Bevins of South Williamson, Aaron Kirk of Huddy, Kentucky, Trenedy Keith and Jheran Tyelin May of Turkey Creek, Kentucky.
Poppy always found sunshine in the visits of his three great grandchildren, Jayden Ryanne Marcum, Logan Bryce Thompson and Maddie Grace Bevins.
Poppy is also survived by two sisters, Opal Varney of Turkey Creek, Kentucky and Marie Williams of Flatwoods, Kentucky.
Funeral Services will be held 11 A.M. Friday, July 3, 2009 at the Leckieville Freewill Baptist Church with Lonnie Francis officiating.  Burial will follow in the Mt. View Memory Gardens at Huddy, Kentucky with grandsons and sons-in law serving as pallbearers.  Visitation will be held after 6 P.M. at the Church with special services at 7 P.M.  R.E.
