Zella Mae Phifer, 89, of Delbarton, departed this life Sunday, May 10, 2009 at Trinity Healthcare in Logan. Born June 22, 1919 in Wayne County, she was the daughter of the late Monzola and Alice Smith Vinson.

Zella was of the baptist faith and a retired factory supervisor. Also preceding her in death was her husband; Leon Phifer; one son; Lloyd Sammons; five brothers; Jess and Millard Vinson, Isaac, George, and Charlie Gravely; three sisters; Tilda Ann Brewer, Creasy Mahon, and Geneva Mahon.

Survivors include two sons; Thomas Sammons of Summersville, and Paul Sammons of Mt. Vernon, Ohio; one daughter; Kathy Darlene Phifer of Michigan; one brother; Jim Vinson of Mt. Gay; two sisters; Helen Kavulick of Lenore, and Barbara Baisden of Sarah Ann, and a host of relatives and friends.

Services will be at 1 p.m., Thursday, May 14, at Collins Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Charles Blankenship officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 6-9 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home. Pallbearers are; Bill Vinson, Ray Vinson, Robert Brewer, Willis Brewer, Leon Brewer, and Sonny Brewer.

Collins Funeral Home at Switzer is in charge of arrangements.
