Luther Franklin Preece, 94, of Oceana, passed away Thursday, April 16, 2009, at the assisted living facility in London, Ohio, where he had resided for the past two and a half years.
Born July 20, 1914, in Martin County, Ky., he was the son of the late William Zettic and Ara Bell McCoy Preece.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 74 years, Lydia Perry Preece and two children, Virginia (Donald) Davis and Leroy Preece and seven sisters and brothers.
He was raised in Martin County and considered that home until 1962 when he relocated with his wife and family to Oceana.
Luther was an electrician by trade and retired with UMWA after 29 ½ years of service, the last being at Kopperston. Luther was a faithful Christian, a loving husband and devoted father and a kind and generous neighbor and friend.
He is survived by children William C. (Grace) Preece of Clarksburg, James F. Preece, London of Ohio, Barbara J. (John) Allen of Lebanon, Penn., Ronald (Brenda) Preece of Ashville, Ohio, Lynda J. (Jarry) Fields of Augusta, Ga., and Dorothy L. (Gary) Cecil of Lebanon, Penn.
Other survivors include 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Maynard of Huntington and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 20, 2009, at the Delilah United Methodist Church in Oceana and at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at the Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home in Warfield, Ky.,with the Rev. Woodrow Nichols officiating. Burial will follow at the Davis Family Cemetery in Beauty, Ky.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, April 19, 2009, at the Adam Toler Funeral Home in Oceana or from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, April 20, 2009, at the Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home Chapel in Warfield, Ky.
