WILLIAMSON - A local watering hole has been cited for serving alcohol to underage partons, and faces a fine and temporary closure.
According to West Virginia Alcohol Beverage Control Administration spokesperson Gig Robinson, an undercover investigation was conducted at Cheers Bar & Grill in West Williamson in April.
Robinson said Cheers was fined $550 for serving alcohol to minors, and will be closed for three days, from 7 a.m. June 6 until 1 p.m. June 9.
The WVABCA website lists the license for Cheers as belonging to Patrick Staten.
Robinson said the time lapse between when the violation occurred and the fine and suspension being enforced is part of the process.
“The commmsion conducted the undercover operation in April,” he told the Daily News. “After a violation is submitted, the Commission looks at the past history of the license and other factors before they act, it is part of due process.”
Anderson said he was unaware if there were other operations in April. The Daily News will provide information about WVABCA operations as it becomes available.
