Prestonsburg Blackcats nip Belfry Pirates 4-3

PRESTONSBUR, Ky. – The Belfry Pirates lost another close game on the road at Prestonsburg falling 4-3 on Thursday evening.
The Blackcats held a 4-0 lead heading into the final inning when Belfry rallied for three runs, but that is all they could muster and lost another heartbreaker.
In the top of the 7th inning, with one out, Belfry’s Zack Francisco singled to right field and then Reed Williamson walked. With two outs, Zac Fields delivered an RBI single to left to knock in two runs.. Then Eli Huddle had an RBI single to left field to account for the other run.
Zack Francisco had two singles for Belfry, while Sean Hurley got Belfry’s first hit of the game, and his first of the season, a single to right field with one out in the 4th frame.
Prestonsburg scored a run in the 1st inning. Grant Anderson singled to right, Bryson Williams singled to left and Anderson to third base. Then Trey Stapleton smacked a sac fly to Huddle.
The Blackcats to another run in the 3rd inning when Anderson doubled to right center, Williams reached safely on an error by BHS pitcher Keaton Taylor. Taylor bobbled the comebacker and Anderson scored on throw to first base.
In the 4th inning Prestonsburg’s Jarin Hall led off and reached on an error by the shortstop Williamson. Hall reached second base on another error on the throw to first base. Hall advanced to third on an error by the catcher, Francisco, on an attempted pick-off throw. With two outs, Reece Ison, the designated hitter, cracked an RBI double to left field.
The final run, which proved to be the game winner for the home team, came in the 5th inning. Williams singled to center, followed by a single by Stapleton, which advanced Williams to third base. Williams scored on an error by Francisco.
Taylor was the hard-luck loser for the Pirates hurling a complete game. He fanned 13 batters and did not walk any Blackcats. He only allowed one earned run. Adam Griffith was the winning pitcher for Prestonsburg.
Belfry is now 12-15 on the season, while Prestonsburg improved to 19-0.
