Ladies All-Star game should be a great match-up
JULIA ROBERTS GOAD
The two ladies teams lined up for the Consol Energy WV-KY All-Star game should make for an exciting matchup.
The West Virginia squad will be led by Julius ‘Boo’ Hatcher, while the Kentucky squad will be coached by veteran mentor Clay Campbell. Hatcher coaches at Mingo Central and Williamson Middle School, while Campbell coaches at Pike County Central. He previously coached at Phelps and Matewan.
The Mountain State girls’ team will feature Morgan Spolarich of Westside High School and Summer Sword of Man High School, both all-state selections.
Four seniors from Mingo Central are on the squad. They include Chrissy Farmer, Danielle Browning, Brittany Maynard and Bri Smith. Four members of Chapmanville Regional are on the roster. They include Autumn Baisden, Chelcie Pritchard, Hailey Pirce and Katelyn Hall.
A pair of Lincoln County Panthers is also suiting up for the W.Va. squad. They are Olivia Dean-Olgoe and Kirbi Slone.
The Kentucky squad has several of the top players from the eastern part of the Commonwealth. They include three players from Pike County Central – Cassidy Campbell, Kassidy Prater and Cameron Blackburn.
Taylor Porter, a Division One signee from Lawrence County, could be on the team. She had already committed to a couple of other all-star games, so her status for the game is not set in stone.
Two girls from Martin County’s Sheldon Clark High School are on the squad. They are Katelyn Newsome and Candice Porter.
Belfry’s Jackie Stack, a career 1,000 point scorer for the Lady Pirates, is also on the Bluegrass squad. Tristian Miller of East Ridge and Kelly Akers of Piarist round out the squad for Campbell.
The lady’s game will start at 5:30 p.m. at Mingo Central High School.
After the game the gals will have a 3-point contest, followed by a 3-point contest for the men’s players and a dunk contest by the men.
Preliminary games between midget league all-star teams from Delbarton and Gilbert will also be played prior to the girls’ high school contest.
A big crowd is expected for this all-day event.
