BRADSHAW – Mingo Central scored four runs in the 7th inning to take a 14-10 lead over River View and won their first game of the season on Thursday night in a game played at Bradshaw.
Seniors Matt Lester and Garth Simpkins each had three hits to lead the Miners. Both players had a pair of RBIs.
Sophomore Todd Slone drove in five runs for Mingo Central. He had two hits including a double.
Caleb Spencer, only a junior, had two hits and drove in three runs for interim head coach Roger Staton’s team. B. J. Warden, Mason Conley and Trevor Porter each had a base hit.
Simpkins (1-1) got the win on the mound for the Miners. He pitched three innings in relief and only gave up one run and one hit. He had six strikeouts. Conley started the game and went three innings, while Lester pitched the middle three innings.
A couple of Mingo’s starters did not play because they were participating in a meet at Ripley for the school’s track team.
Austin Walker took the loss on the mound for the Raiders. Zach Shelton led River View in hitting with a single and a double.
Mingo Central was scheduled to play at Scott on Saturday afternoon. That game was originally scheduled for a home contest, but was switched because a home field was not available yet for the Miners.
