Williamson Cubpack advances in middle school tourney

RED JACKET – The Williamson Cubpack won their first round game in the Mingo County boy’s middle school tournament on Wednesday night to advance the semi-final action which was played Thursday night.


Williamson coached by Larry “Giddle” Johnson, defeated Gilbert 44-23.


Aaron Banks led Williamson with 11 points and seven assists, while Keshean Rhodes scored 13 points. Josh Reed chipped in nine, Leonard Young had three points and seven rebounds and Ricky Ball six points and Spencer Stogsdill two.


Johnson said the game was played in memory of Barry “Hotdog” Harmon, who passed away earlier this week. “He was the biggest Williamson fan around.”


Isiah May and Nathaniel Ellis each had five points, while John Hendricks had four for Gilbert.

Lenore 53, Matewan 13


Lenore defeated Matewan 53-13 in the other first round game.


Chandler Pack led Lenore with 14 points. Austin Baisden and Zack Samuel each scored six points for head coach James Baisden’s squad. The Rangers had 13 different players to score in the game.


Matewan was led by Thomas Harmon with five points.


In the semi-finals Thursday the No. 1 seed Kermit played Williamson and No. 2 seed Burch played Lenore on Thursday night.
