WILLIAMSON — An accident Monday evening between two vehicles sent a total of five people to a local hospital.

Deputy R. Marble, with the Pike County Sheriff’s Department, told the Daily News that two juveniles were travelling northbound on U.S. 119 in a red Chevrolet pickup truck and that three people in a beige Chevrolet Malibu were leaving from the Appalachian Plaza exit near Taco Bell, looking to turn southbound on the highway.

Marble said that the driver of the Malibu apparently did not see the truck when exiting, which resulted in a collision between the two vehicles.

Kentucky State Trooper S. Mounts had no details on injuries sustained, but said that none of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening. All those involved in the accident were transported by Appalachian 1st Response to the Appalachian Regional Hospital in South Williamson, Ky.

Names of the people involved in the accident were not immediately available.

The Belfry Volunteer Fire Department responded with two trucks and 14 firefighters. While Fire Chief Nee Jackson also had no specifics on injuries, he pointed out an impact mark on the pickup truck’s windshield, where the truck’s passenger had apparently hit their head.

Debris from the wreck flung as far as 20-feet from where the vehicles eventually came to rest. Traffic was diverted on U.S. 119 for approximately 90 minutes.

The accident is still under investigation.
