WILLIAMSON — The Mingo County Circuit Court Grand Jury returned 61 felony indictments including 52 sealed felony drug indictments, in less than 3 days. The jurors convened on Tuesday for the first time in the New Year and concluded on Thursday. Arraignments for those indicted will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 5, at 9 a.m.

The 52 sealed felony drug indictments are the culmination of “Operation Zero Tolerance”, which is an ongoing operation. Nine indictments involving charges that include child neglect, sexual abuse and sexual assault were not sealed. The next scheduled meeting of the grand jury is be Feb. 20.

“Eugene Crum has exceeded my highest expectations as Mingo County Drug Enforcement Investigator and now as our Mingo County Sheriff,” stated C. Michael Sparks, Prosecuting Attorney. “Sheriff Crum’s leadership and dedication to drug enforcement has provided a game changing boost to our drug enforcement program.”

Mingo County Sheriff’s Department (MCSD) Drug Task Force Commander C. D. Rockel is simply among the best in the business as a drug enforcement investigator,” remarked Sparks. “Commander Rockel’s drug enforcement expertise is truly a tremendous asset.”

“Our smart, fast and flexible approach has proven to be highly successful. Operation Zero Tolerance is ongoing, with more felony drug enforcement indictments expected.”

“I commend the grand jurors for their service and citizenship. I also commend my staff for their tireless dedication to the cause of justice. Finally, I commend Judge Thornsbury for his proficiency as a jurist. In 2012, my office achieved the third highest number of felony convictions in Mingo County history, yet the criminal docket was clear prior to the January 2013 Term - a testament to Judge Thornsbury’s outstanding work ethic and docket management skill.”

The names and criminal charges for those who were indicted will be released by the Williamson Daily News as they are taken into custody.
