Pike man killed in accident

PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A Pike County man was killed in a single-vehicle accident in Draffin on Friday.


Louie B. Stewart, 48, of Draffin, was traveling West on River Road when the 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee he was operating exited the shoulder of the road and came to rest on its roof in the river.


The Kentucky State Police, Ferrells Creek Fire Department, Marrowbone Fire Department, and Millard East Shelbiana Fire Department responded to the call.


A passenger in the vehicle was able to escape and told emergency responders that Stewart was still within.


Fire and rescue teams removed the vehicle found Stewart inside the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Pike County Deputy Coroner Denver Bailey


The accident remains under investigation by KSP Trooper Heath Ayres. Ayres was assisted on scene by KSP Trooper J.B. Cox.
