NAUGATUCK - Lawrence County came into Naugatuck and ran past the Lady Panthers of Tug Valley 76-58 Thursday night.
Taylor Porter fired in 34 points to lead the Lady Bulldogs, while Savannah Cyrus scored16 and Shelby Hay 14 for coach Roger Harless.
Porter scored 23 in the first half and Cyrus had 12 of her 16 in the first two quarters.
Whitney Evans-Kirk led Tug Valley with 17 points, while Hannah Armstrong and Adreana Vance each scored 13 for the Lady Panthers of coach Okey Smith. Amber Linville scored 12 for TVHS.
Armstrong pulled down 11 rebounds, while Linville grabbed 10, Kirk-Evans eight and Vance seven. Vance dished out three assists.
Tug Valley got behind 24-8 after one quarter and trailed 43-27 at the half.
The Lady Panthers played better in the second half, but could not overcome the deficit from the first half.
“We let them blitz us in the first quarter and then played even with them the rest of the way. I think they have a very good team and Taylor Porter is a very good player. We just need to learn how to play against competition like that. I think we proved we can play with them after the first quarter but, that’s why games are four quarters long I guess,” said Smith.
“I thought that Hannah and Amber gave us good efforts with their post play tonight. Whitney played a good second half after she settled down and didn’t try to do everything by herself. Adreana hit some big shots for us in the first half to keep us in contention. We will be back in the gym tomorrow getting ready for another tough game at Belfry on Monday,” Smith added.
Tug Valley is now 8-3 on the season. They play at Belfry on Monday at 7:00 p.m.
Lawrence County is now 14-5 on the season. They play at Johnson Central tonight at 7:30 p.m.
