NAUGATUCK – The Lady Panthers defeated visiting River View in Saturday afternoon action in the John Preece Shootout 45 to 40.

Whitney Evans-Kirk led Tug Valley with 14 pts, Adreana Vance scored 12, dished out six assists and had six rebounds, while Hannah Armstrong had 11 points. Amber Linville had 14 rebounds and four points and Katie Robinson scored four.

Chelsey Dobbs led River View with 25 points and six rebounds.

“First let me thank all the basketball fans in area for making the John Preece Shootout a success. Second, I want to say our thoughts and prayers are with Coach J.W. Endicott as he is in the hospital in Huntington,” coach Okey Smith said. “I thought we played well in spurts today but it seems like we just couldn’t put them away. I give River View credit they didn’t quit.”

Tug Valley is now 8-1 on the season. They played Chapmanville at home on Monday night. River View is now 1-10 on the season.

Lady Miners roll past Wayne

NEWTOWN The Lady Miners of Mingo Central rolled over visiting Wayne on Saturday afternoon 82 to 37 at the MCHS gym.

Mingo Central jumped out to a 44-17 first half lead and continued to dominate the game in the second half.

Ashley Curry led the way for MCHS with 19 points, while Miranda Evans scored 10. Several players got into the scoring act for the Lady Miners of coach Don Taylor.

Wayne was led by Taylor Bartram with 13.
